Flight-only website banned from making financial protection claim
Advertising watchdogs have banned a travel company from claiming to offer financial protection via the Travel Trust Association after discovering that it wasn’t a member.
The Advertising Standards Authority also reported Heathrow-based Emaan Travel, trading as Cheap Flights Corner, to the ASA compliance team after it failed to respond to its request for information.
Cheap Flights Corner claimed on its website that the Travel Trust Association provided ‘100% financial protection’ for customers booking flights, but someone challenged the claim with the ASA.
"We had not seen any evidence that Cheap Flights Corner were a member of the TTA and when their name was entered on the relevant ‘Verify TTA Member’ page of the TTA website they were not listed," said the ASA.
"We therefore concluded that the references to the TTA and 100% financial protection were misleading.
"We told Emaan Travel Ltd not to state or imply that they were members of the TTA, or that they offered 100% financial protection on that basis."
Cheapflightscorner.co.uk was not working when TravelMole checked following publication of the ruling.
