Galileo expands non-air offering
Galileo has struck a deal with a sister company to offer agents access to over 17,000 self-catering properties world wide. The GDS is allowing UK agents access to the portfolio of self-catering properties either through Galileo Leisure or online, under a new brand called Galileo Self Catering. Agents will receive commissions of up to 7.5% for self-catering bookings, which will be managed within the Galileo Self Catering system. The 17,000 properties, which include the French Life, Blakes Country Cottages and Individual Italy brands, range from one to five star and are mostly in Europe. Galileo Self Catering is the latest initiative by the GDS to leverage the benefits of being part of Cendant, by tying up with sister company, Vacation Rental Group. Commenting on the launch, Vacation Rental Group president and chief executive Markus Deutsch said: “There is huge potential for agents to earn additional revenues through the European holiday rental market and I believe this sector will continue to grow in years to come.” Report by Ginny McGrath
