Global airline on time performance dips again in July
July was another volatile month for air travel, with global flight cancellations climbing to nearly 60,000—a 5% increase from May.
The impact in North America was felt hardest with a 42% increase, followed by Europe (30%) and Latin America (21%), according to aviation analytics firm, Cirium.
The Middle East and Africa delivered operational success, decreasing flight cancellations by a massive 70%, while Asia-Pacific held steady with a 2% decrease.
Globally, carriers from Latin America and the Middle East dominated the global airlines category for on-time performance.
Aeromexico emerged as the new global leader with an OTP of 89.81%. Azul, Saudia, Qatar Airways and LATAM Airlines also figured in the top rankings.
In North America, Delta Air Lines returned to the top with an OTP of 76.97%, while India’s IndiGo was top in Asia Pacific.
Icelandair was once again Europe’s regional leader despite its OTP declining.
