Grand old Kuala Lumpur hotel to reopen
One of southeast Asia’s finest heritage hotels, the Majestic in Kuala Lumpur, will re-open its doors on December 1.
Built in the 1930s, the hotel closed in 1984 and was used by the National Art Gallery of Malaysia and the Kuala Lumpur Tourism Association.
The luxury 300-room hotel is set to rekindle the glory of the former Hotel Majestic by recreating the 1950s era in grand style.
YTL Hotels executive director Mark Yeoh said the piece de resistance of the hotel was the Majestic Wing where neo classic details of the original structure were meticulously restored.
"Nothing was to be changed here because the building is gazetted under the Antiquities Act," he said.
The hotel is across the Moorish Kuala Lumpur railway station.
A Malaysian Chinese family ran the hotel until it was repossessed by the government to house the National Art Gallery.
YTL Hotels has signed a membership agreement with The Leading Hotels of the World.
