Huntsville Airport first to become a designated spaceport
Huntsville International will become the first airport of its kind also designated as a commercial space port. The Federal Aviation Administration is granting a license for it to operate as a commercial space re-entry site.
It allows it to handle landing services for the Sierra Space Dream Chaser spacecraft returning to Earth from NASA resupply missions to the International Space Station.
The FAA will issue a license for five years. Huntsville International Airport will be the only commercial airport also serving as a spacecraft landing site.
