IATA: Air traffic recovery remains strong
The International Air Transport Association’s latest data for July 2022 shows the recovery in air travel continues to hold up.
Total traffic in July 2022 (in revenue passenger kilometres or RPKs) was up 58.8% compared to July 2021.
Globally, traffic is now at 74.6% of pre-Covid levels.
International traffic rose 150.6% versus July 2021.
RPKs reached 67.9% of July 2019 levels., with all markets reported strong growth, led by Asia-Pacific.
“July’s performance continued to be strong, with some markets approaching pre-Covid levels. This is even with capacity constraints in parts of the world that were unprepared for the speed at which people returned to travel,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General.
Asia-Pacific airlines posted a 528.8% rise in July traffic compared to last year, the strongest year-over-year rate among all regions.
Capacity was up 159.9% with the load factor up 47.1% to 80.2%.
European seat capacity rose 64.3%, with load factors up to 86.7%.
North America leads the way as load factors climbed above 90%.
