IHG signs three hotels in New Caledonia
InterContinental Hotels Group is planting its flag in New Caledonia with a trio of new hotels set to open in the next five years.
First up is new-build InterContinental Lifou Wadra Bay Resort with 50 rooms on Lifou, the largest island of the Loyalty Islands.
Construction on the resort is already underway and is slated to open in in November 2021.
Also opening in late 2021 is Holiday Inn Resort Ouvéa which is being rebranded from the current Hotel Paradis d’Ouvéa.
The 34-room beachfront resort will feature all-day dinning, a bar and an outdoor pool.
Holiday Inn Resort Lifou is also a rebrand property and will open later in 2024 following an extensive refurbishment.
"The Loyalty Islands currently have no international hotel brand so bringing the world’s largest hotel brand family, Holiday Inn, and the world’s largest luxury hotel brand, InterContinental will boost the territory’s global profile," says Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s VP of development – Australasia, Japan & Pacific.
All three properties are part of a a long-term management agreement inked with owner Société de developpement et d’investissement des Iles Loyaute (SODIL).
New Caledonia receives about 600,000 visitors yearly with Australia, New Zealand and Japan major growth markets.
Qantas and Air New Zealand offer regular flights to Noumea La Tontouta International Airport, although it is more notable as a South Pacific cruise destination.
