India tourism continues to boom
A report issued by the Indian Tourism Ministry says that foreign visitors to India have increased significantly, with a 14.2% increase, reaching 4.43 million in 2006, up from 3.92 million in 2005.
The report also showed that foreign exchange earnings from tourism have also grown to $6.569 billion in 2006, compared to $5.73 billion in 2005, with a 14.6 increase.
The Association of British Travel Agencies has also ranked India as the number one destination among the world’s top 50 places for 2006.
