Investigation after plane leaves gate with door open
An investigation is underway in Australia after a major safety lapse was averted just before an aircraft was due to take off.
A Jetstar plane which pulled away from the gate and readying for take off was seen on video with a cargo door still wide open.
It was caught on camera at Sydney Airport.
Flight JQ456 was flying to Ballina.
The airline says there was ‘no safety risk at any stage.’
Jetstar claimed an error alert was sounded in the cockpit and the pilots returned to the gate.
“A rear cargo door was left open after the door was unlocked to add a piece of oversized luggage to the hold at Sydney Airport,” the airline said.
“Our pilots received a notification that the cargo door was open and returned to the bay. There was no safety risk at any stage; multiple system safeguards ensure an aircraft cannot take off with a cargo door open.”
“We are currently investigating how this could have happened and are working with our ground handler to ensure it does not happen again.”
“Swissport is aware of the incident and a full investigation is currently underway.”
