Japan Airlines to raise fuel surcharge
Japan Airlines has become the latest carrier to announce a decision to raise fuel surcharges as fuel prices continue to rise.
It has requested for approval from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to increase fuel surcharges on all international passenger tickets issued between June 1 and July 31 2011.
If approved, the surcharge on flights from Europe to Japan will increase from US$202 to US$288.
In April this year, JAL began setting fuel surcharge levels bimonthly based on the two-month average price, instead of quarterly based on three-month average price.
