Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore completes major upgrades
Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS), operated by SATS-Creuers Cruise Services (SCCS), has wrapped up a US$29 million modernization project aimed at elevating passenger comfort and meeting the surging demand for cruise travel across Asia.
The extensive upgrade reorganizes passenger flow to efficiently handle two mega ships simultaneously through the terminal’s existing berths. A new check-in hall on Level 1—featuring 70 counters and more than 500 seats—now serves Pier 2, while the Level 2 check-in area continues to accommodate Pier 1 passengers. Both halls include VIP lounges designed to offer added comfort for premium travelers.
Enhancements extend well beyond check-in. A revamped Ground Transport Area (GTA) features wider roadways, expanded coach bays, and an early baggage drop-off service that sends luggage directly to the ship. The upgrades are expected to shorten wait times and streamline embarkation for thousands of travelers each day. Ride-hailing pick-up zones have more than doubled, and a new loop shuttle now connects Marina South Pier MRT station to the terminal on select cruise days.
For visitors arriving by car, MBCCS has launched an Advanced Carpark Reservation System allowing travelers to book parking up to 60 days ahead at discounted rates. A buggy transport service helps passengers with limited mobility move easily between the GTA and the terminal.
Improving transportation options to the terminal
The terminal also introduced new services that extend convenience beyond the port. Through third-party partnerships, MBCCS now offers baggage transfers to all Singapore hotels and Changi Airport, plus shuttle services to top attractions such as Gardens by the Bay and Chinatown. International passengers can once again use the Cruise-Fly Service, which allows check-in for same-day connecting flights—letting visitors explore Singapore luggage-free before heading to the airport.
Behind the scenes, MBCCS has implemented a Vehicle Slot Management System using real-time tracking and automated scheduling to manage the flow of supplies like food, linens, and ship provisions. The innovation ensures efficient resupply operations for mega ships, even during dual ship calls.
In another industry first, MBCCS introduced the PortDeck, a convertible bench-table system designed to optimize space and enhance comfort during peak travel periods.
“The new check-in hall, redesigned passenger flows, and expanded facilities mark a transformative step for MBCCS,” said Gregory Tan, CEO of SATS-Creuers. “By streamlining check-in, upgrading transport, and introducing innovative back-end systems, we’re delivering greater efficiency and comfort for travelers and cruise operators alike.”
Bob Chi, Chairman of SATS-Creuers, added: “This major investment reaffirms our commitment to supporting Singapore’s cruise industry in partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board. It strengthens service quality, attracts leading cruise lines, and expands opportunities within Singapore’s vibrant tourism ecosystem.”
Ong Huey Hong, Assistant Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board’s Industry Development Group, said: “The enhanced Marina Bay Cruise Centre reflects our Tourism 2040 vision—creating world-class destinations that meet evolving traveler expectations while reinforcing Singapore’s leadership in cruise tourism.”
