Mexico’s new military-run airline takes flight
Mexico’s new military-run airline has taken to the skies.
The inaugural flight of Mexicana departed Mexico City to resort city Tulum.
Under control of an army-run holding company, Mexicana will serve key tourist destinations.
These include Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, and Mazatlan.
The holding company already has a big presence in the tourism sector, owning several airports, and operating hotels, rail services and amusement parks.
The maiden flight to Tulum encountered bad weather and had to be diverted to Merida.
It eventually arrived at Tulum a couple of hours late.
Mexicana will also operate feeder fights to connect with the controversial Maya Train tourist project, which is also being built by the military.
