MH370 investigators confirm they’ve found wing part
Investigators probing the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines’ flight MH370 have confirmed that a piece of debris found washed up in Mauritius is a section of the aircraft’s wing.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said today that it was the trailing edge section of the Boeing 777 outboard flap.
The section of the wing was one of three pieces of debris found on Indian Ocean beaches in May. The other two have already been confirmed as coming from the missing 777.
The aircraft disappeared in March 2014 with 239 people onboard as it flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
Federal minister for infrastructure and transport Darren Chester said the discovery of the wing part affirmed the focus of search efforts in the southern Indian Ocean.
However, he said investigators were no closer to determining the exact location of the remainder of the aircraft.
