Miami Beach fed up with unruly spring breakers
Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber imposed a curfew following two fatal shootings last weekend.
They happened in the tourist hotspot of Ocean Drive as spring-breakers throng the city.
Gelber has lost patience with rowdy behavior from visitors, especially during spring break.
The city also banned alcohol sales after 6pm.
“We don’t want spring break in our city. It’s too rowdy, brings too much disorder and it’s simply too difficult to police,” Gelber said.
“While most may come here to enjoy Miami Beach, a few come with bad intentions in the presence of guns.”
In the latest shooting one man died and another was injured.
A man was also shot dead in a shooting last Friday.
Police said it was ‘targeted.’
Gelber said both shootings involved out of town visitors.
There has been a large police presence in the area due to shootings in previous years.
The Mayor said officers were just moments away and made arrests.
“But even an unprecedented police presence could not prevent these incidents from occurring.”
