More people opt for DIY holidays – poll
The number of people opting to organise independent holidays rather than take traditional packages is on the rise, according to new research.
A survey into trends of UK long haul travellers reveals that the percentage booking travel and accommodation separately has risen to 41%, up from 38% in March.
Meanwhile, those choosing a package or all-inclusive holiday has dropped to 56% from 60% over the same period.
The findings come from a second quarterly report based on a poll of 2,000 people by the Jamaica Tourist Board.
The survey found that Londoners are the most confident in making their own holiday arrangements (64%) against 24% of people from the East Midlands.
Youngsters aged between 16-19 prefer to take packages (55%) but switch to DIY holidays when they reach their twenties (50%), according to the findings.
The JTB research revealed that almost half of people (46%) plan to travel abroad on holiday next year, with 97% choosing to fly.
More people in their twenties will go on holiday in the next 12 months than any other age group (53%), compared to only one in three aged over-60.
One in five people (21%) plan to take a holiday in the next 12 weeks to avoid the peak summer school holiday crowds.
Top long-haul dream destinations were: Australia and New Zealand; US and Canada; Caribbean, Asia, South Africa and India.
