A new academy school sponsored by The Co-operative Travel has opened today in Stoke-on-Trent.

The Co-operative Academy, which specialises in business, maths and computing, is one of five new, state-funded academy schools being developed in Stoke to raise standards of education.

The Co-operative Travel is the main sponsor along with two co-sponsors, Stoke-on-Trent College and Staffordshire University.

The Co-operative Travel managing director Mike Greenacre said: “The Co-operative Group is truly proud to be the lead sponsor of this new Academy, which is part of our wider national education programme.

"We believe passionately in high quality education and support for the positive development for all young people."
