New airline Avelo takes flight
America’s newest airline has taken off on its inaugural flight.
The first to launch in the Covid era, Avelo took off from Burbank Airport with a flight to Santa Rosa, CA.
"The first flight represents far more than a 90-minute journey from LA’s iconic Hollywood Burbank Airport to the heart of California wine country — we’re embarking on a new era of choice, convenience and everyday low fares" said Avelo CEO Andrew Levy, who is a former United Airlines executive.
The airline operates Boeing 737 aircraft with a low cost business model and will fly to underserved secondary destinations, mostly in western states.
It has basic fares starting at $19 one way.
It has announced nearly a dozen routes and will start flying three times a week from Burbank to Pasco, Washington from today.
