North Cyprus denies border crossing charge
Ground handling companies in Cyprus have been accused of charging around £15 for crossing the border into North Cyprus.
The North Cyprus Tourism Centre confirmed that no charges are required from tourists crossing the border from the south of the island despite some firms telling operators and tourists a fee is being levied by the government of Turkish North Cyprus.
Cross-boarder tours have become increasingly popular with many thousands of tourists from the south expected to make day excursions to the North this summer, according to the tourism centre.
NCTC director Bengu Sonya said: “We can confirm that no charges of any sort are being levied for any holidaymakers who would like to visit the north of the island. They simply need to bring a passport for identification”.
There are five points at which boarder crossings can be made: Ledra Palace and Metehan in Nicosia, Beyarmudu near the British base in Dhekelia, Akyar near Famagusta and Bostanci in Guzelyurt.
