On the ‘Road to Mandalay’
A1 Travel Group (A1TG) is offering a fantastic insight into mysterious Myanmar with the release of a new 12-day fully-escorted ‘Golden Myanmar’ experiential tour scheduled to depart on 27 October 2007 ex-Australia.
The overall feel of the program is designed to fully immerse participants in an unique culture that to date has managed to escape the ravages of mass tourism and cleverly combines the capital Yangon with the opportunity to go ‘hands-on’ in Myanmar’s relatively unknown regional areas.
With featured accommodation including many of the country’s five-star hotels and first-class resorts the comfortably-paced program includes many of Yangon’s must-see attractions before journeying deep into the country’s interior to sample a way of life and culture that has remains unchanged.
Highlights en route include Heho, Pindaya and picturesque Inle Lake.
The itinerary also includes visits to the country’s former ancient capitals at Mingun, Inwa and Amapura before arriving in Mandala, the place made famous by Rudyard Kipling’s poem ‘The Road to Mandalay’.
Mandalay forms the start point for an inclusive two-night cruise on the Irrawaddy River to the city of Bagan on board the luxury paddle cruiser RV Pandaw built in 1947.
The country’s biggest waterway and a key commercial waterway, the Irrawaddy is in fact the ‘road’ mentioned in the Kipling poem, the river providing the only means of accessing Mandalay before the advent of roads and rail.
Bagan too offers huge interest, the stopover including the opportunity to climb volcanic Mount Popa and the monkey-infested Pagoda at the summit and the mysterious Temples of Nats which built centuries ago remain the world’s most important spirit worship sites.
Prices for the ‘Golden Myanmar’ program start from $4984* per person twin share.
This includes return economy airfares flying Thai International Airways ex-Australia, all accommodation, the Irrawaddy River cruise, meals as per itinerary, sightseeing and return airport-hotel transfers.
