Oyo Hotels, other chains team up to offer quarantine rooms
Oyo Hotels has joined rival hotel chains Lemon Tree and Ginger Hotels to offer up to 5,000 isolation rooms across India.
In partnership with Apollo Hospitals’ ‘Project Stay I’ (Stay Isolated), rooms will be modified into isolation spaces with light medical supervision.
This will help to prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed.
"Project Stay I is a scalable methodology to use existing infrastructure to control the spread of coronavirus. Apollo Hospitals, along with its partners, commits to add up to 5,000 rooms where patients can stay in isolation and not spread it to others," said Sangita Reddy, joint managing director, Apollo Hospitals Group, at a virtual press conference.
It is also partnering with Zomato for food deliveries.
Room costs are being subsidised via funding from other businesses including Unilever.
The first phase of 500 rooms is rolling out this week in Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Delhi.
Apollo Hospitals said it will add up to 100 rooms every week depending on the demand.
