Police raid travel agency: three arrested
Three people have been arrested following raids at a travel agency in Ashton-under-Lyne, near Manchester, which trading standards believes to have been fraudulently selling pilgrimages to British Muslims.
Two men aged 55 and one woman, 54, are in police custody being questioned about the trips to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It is believed the agency falsely claimed the packages were ATOL-protected.
Officers made the arrests during early morning raids at two houses in the town. They also searched a travel agency in the town.
The raids followed months of surveillance and a number of complaints from customers about claims on the agency’s website, said the Manchester Evening News.
