London to Jamaica routes are to be restarted by Air Jamaica following its rebirth after a merger with Caribbean Airlines.

A three times weekly service will operate into London Heathrow using Boeing 777s from July.
The announcement was made at Caribbean marketplace this week in the midst of much interest about the controversial merger. Air Jamaica was a popular brand in the country and locals were pleased to see that Caribbean Airlines planned to retain the brand.
A spokesman for the carrier explained: “Our intention is to try and create one airline for the whole of the Caribbean. I believe that the combination of ownership and buy-in will allow us to expand and give an even better service than ever before.
“To this end we have the intention of widening our network, acquiring new 737-800 aircraft, the first of which in the new livery arrived in Kingston last week.
"We look forward to the arrival in 2012 of the Boeing Dreamliners for long haul and specifically our commitment to London.”
However, its seems there are some hurdles to jump yet, with contracts still unsigned and airline staff in the UK yet to be recruited.
But the spokesman said Air Jamaica felt the timing was right for a UK connection, with the 2012 Games around the corner and the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence also coming up.
