Qantas A380 springs a leak

A Qantas A380 flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne returned to LA about an hour after take off yesterday due to a water leak on board the aircraft.

A Qantas statement said crew on board "did everything they could to help customers, including moving them to unaffected areas and providing spare blankets so they could stay dry".

Qantas apologised to customers and said there were no safety of flight concerns with the water leak, but the captain decided to return to LA "in the interests of passenger comfort".

Qantas said in the statement it is liaising with Airbus "to understand what caused this fault".

It is understood the water came from a pipe in the upper deck business class cabin and leaked onto economy class passengers below.

Social media images posted on the Plane Talking website show what appears to be a large amount of water flowing through the cabin.
