Red Bull Air Race all set to go in Perth
There are just over 20 days to go before the 2006 Red Bull Air Race World Series takes to the Perth skies above the Swan River on Sunday 19 November.
The Race, described as an exhilarating high performance grand prix style motorsport, which just happens to be in the sky and not on a track, will see the world’s best eleven race pilots perform on a slalom racetrack in the sky at speeds of more than 400 kilometres per hour, reaching acceleration forces of 10G or more, with pilots performing gate crossings and turning manoeuvres just metres above the Swan River, negotiating 20 metre high inflatable pylons, known as air gates, in a pre-determined sequence in the fastest possible time.
The Red Bull Air Race has amended the flight plan for the 2006 Air Race so that a limited number of private vessels will now be able to moor in the Swan River to watch the Air Race and two sections of the river will be open for public spectator craft and commercial vessels on Sunday 19 November for the duration of the race. All spectator craft and commercial vessels must enter these areas before 9.00am on Sunday 19 November to secure a position. The water will re-open at 4.00pm and Water Police will be patrolling the Swan River and managing access into these areas.
Once the allocated viewing areas are full, no further access will be permitted.
For those going to the Red Bull Air Race Transperth will be providing public transport services for the Perth metro area and additional park and ride services will be available on Sunday 19 November. All Transperth tickets (including concessions) can be purchased for Transperth timetabled and special event services.
The organisers say that the Red Bull Air Race is a free event for all the family, with the best vantage point being Sir James Mitchell Park, located in South Perth, on the southern side of the Swan River, with an opportunity for the public to see the pilots and the aircraft up close on The Paddock Walk, which will be held on Langley Park on Sunday 19 November between 9.00am and 10.30am.
