Resort operator Vingroup to establish new Vietnam airline
Vietnam’s skies are about to get even more crowded.
Another new airline startup is looking to get off the ground.
Resort and theme park operator Vingroup has secured $1billion in funding from Korean conglomerate SK Group to establish airline unit Vinpearl Air.
Vingroup subsidiary VinAsia Tourism Development will own 45% of the new business.
It will also partner with Canadian aviation firm CAE Inc to open VinAviation School and VinPearl Air Training Centre to train homegrown pilots and aviation maintenance staff.
If and when VinPearl Air takes flight, it will be entering an increasingly crowded market.
Budget carrier VietJet leads the way slightly ahead of flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.
New airline Bamboo Airways launched in early 2019 backed by resort group FLC and travel agency Vietravel and Thien Minh Group are both mulling airline startups.
