Rex takes aim at ‘irresponsible’ media, may take legal action
Australian regional carrier Rex has slammed the media for ‘irresponsible’ reporting and is threatening to take legal action.
The threat comes after numerous outlets reported claims made by the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association in a leaked report detailing damning accusations against the airline.
It said there was a dysfunctional safety culture where engineers were subject to ‘coercion, intimidation and bullying.’
This led to workers fearful of reporting safety issues.
However, a safety audit by Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) found no concerns with safety at the airline.
Feeling vindicated, Rex deputy chairman John Sharp went on the offensive.
"Although the report by CASA has unequivocally vindicated Rex on all the baseless accusations, the damage to Rex’s reputation in the minds of some members of the public is great and will not be completely repaired," Sharp said.
"CASA should be highly commended for devoting considerable resources in ensuring that the audit report was published soon after the audit so that the public can be reassured quickly."
"Rex will be seeking advice on the appropriate actions to be taken against these irresponsible parties to safeguard the integrity of aviation safety in Australia," he added.
