Royal Caribbean forced to alter dozens of itineraries on several ships
Royal Caribbean has been forced to alter dozens of itineraries for several of its ships due to a technical fault on Allure of the Seas.
Allure is sailing at reduced cruising speed due to propulsion issues, meaning its ports of call have had to be changed.
The cruise line said this is also impacting other ships – including Oasis of the Seas – with more than 30 itineraries being revised to avoid overcrowding in ports.
Passengers booked on Oasis were emailed with the news, according to the website Cruise Critic, whose members alerted the site to the changes.
"We had to change Allure’s itineraries, and some ports will now have more ships than originally planned. So, to ensure you have a wonderful time in each destination with less crowding, we’ve rearranged the order we’ll visit each port," Royal Caribbean said in its email.
"The itinerary modifications were due to a technical limitation on one of the ship’s propulsion pods which lowers the maximum speed," Royal Caribbean later added in a statement.
The cruise line hasn’t yet disclosed when Allure’s problems will be fixed.
The ship is scheduled to go into dry dock in March 2020 for a planned multi-million dollar upgrade.
