Royal Caribbean is be first cruise line to show interest in adopting Elon Musk’s Starlink for shipboard Wi–Fi
It made a recent filing to the US Federal Communications Commission, looking to use SpaceX’s satellite internet system for its ships.
“We believe we have identified a true next generation solution for our vessels that meets the rigorous technical and operational requirements,” the line said.
Starlink is becoming an attractive proposition for internet on the go with transportation businesses..
Hawaiian Airlines is also working with Starlink as its first major airline customer.
“We believe our work with SpaceX, the first of its kind in the cruise industry, will set the standard for other cruise operators and will mean a leap in terms of guest experience a,” the company said in the filing.
“We are eager to advocate for new market entrants to drive marketplace innovation.”
The FCC still has not yet officially approved Starlink’s application to provide internet on transportation such as planes and ships.
