Selfie sticks banned by theme park operator
Six Flags is the latest big name theme park operator to ban selfie sticks.
Annual passholders were informed by email of the new rules this week, imposed due to safety concerns.
It covers all parks with immediate effect and selfie sticks, monopods and ‘similar devices’ are no longer welcome.
“Guests who bring selfie sticks to the park will be asked to store them in their cars during their visit,” the company said.
“We strive to provide the safest possible environment in our parks, and these devices pose a safety risk to guests and employees,” said Katy Enrique, communications manager for Six Flags Great America.
The company operates 18 parks in the US, Canada and Mexico.
It follows a similar rule change at Disney which last month banned selfie sticks from all parks.
It adds to a growing list of attractions and museums where selfie sticks are prohibited including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Kentucky Derby.
