Shangri-La to operate new luxury Melbourne hotel
Asian luxury hospitality group Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced a new hotel for a landmark luxury development in Melbourne CBD.
The two-tower development is awaiting planning approval and will feature the 500-guestroom Shangri-La Hotel Melbourne with a sky lobby, restaurants, spa, fitness centre, pool and ballroom.
A second connected tower will comprise 300 luxury residential apartments and office space.
Lower levels of the development will feature a range of retail units.
The hotel group was chosen as hotel operator by Malaysia based S P Setia Berhad Group and unveiled at an event in Melbourne.
"S P Setia is honoured to appoint Shangri-La, an iconic global brand that represents the highest standards of quality, as the hotel operator to this development. Through the design and construction phases and for many decades to come as a luxury residence, retail and hotel precinct, the economic benefits of this project will be significant for Melbourne," said S P Setia chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Mohd Zahid.
S P Setia’s property portfolio spans Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia, Singapore, China and the UK and currently has 30 projects in the pipeline.
"Shangri-La is privileged to be selected as the hotel operator for this world-class S P Setia development, which will be an architectural masterpiece and an iconic part of Melbourne’s skyline for decades to come," said Shangri-La Asia CEO Lim Beng Chee.
