Singapore travel agency suspended over subsidised tourism scam
Singapore agency Continental Travel has been suspended for alleged fraud relating to the SingapoRediscovers subsidised voucher scheme
It is suspended from conducting business activities for five months, the Singapore Tourism Board said.
Investigations last year led to the arrest of three people.
“STB will not hesitate to take necessary action to protect the reputation of Singapore’s travel industry.”
The agency ‘engaged in cashback arrangements by partially refunding, in cash, the value of the SingapoRediscovers voucher bookings, “the STB said.
Continental Travel was kicked out of the voucher scheme last year.
The SingapoRediscover scheme supported local tourism by offering subsidised hotel stays, tours and attractions.
