Singapore’s new cruise terminal opens
Singapore’s second cruise terminal, Marina Bay Cruise Centre, will welcome its first ship, Royal Caribbean International’s Voyager of the Seas, on May 26.
The new facility includes 80 check-in counters and up to 40 immigration counters able to handle up to 6,800 passengers.
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said cruise visitor numbers to Singapore dropped over the past two years, but they are expected to rise to 1.5 million over the next three to five years, up from one million in 2011.
The STB has attributed the decline in cruise numbers to the arrival in Singapore of the integrated casino resorts which have reduced the demand for gaming ships operating out of Singapore.
