Strike action could disrupt Gatwick August bank holiday flights
Travellers could face holiday disruption over the August bank holiday weekend as Gatwick Airport workers are set to go on strike.
The industrial action would impact one of the busiest periods of the summer season.
Trade union Unite says workers are in dispute with baggage screening contractor ICTS.
Workers are asking for a £1-an-hour pay rise and could intensify the industrial action if the pay rise isn’t agreed.
“ICTS has more than enough money to offer these workers a fair pay rise. Not doing so is just corporate greed. ICTS’ Gatwick workers will receive Unite’s complete backing for as long as it takes,” said Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham:
The airport strikes are scheduled between Friday August 22 and Tuesday August 26, and from August 29 to Sept 2.
“All flights out of Gatwick will face disruption during these times,” Unite says.
These striking workers are responsible for security checks and screening at the departure gates.
