Tories call for air travel “health warning”
The British Conservative party is proposing that all airline passengers should be told how much their flights are contributing to global warming, as part of an initiative to reduce greenhouse emissions. According to The Independent, the party’s environment spokesman Tim Yeo wants airline tickets to state the impact that the particular journey will have on the environment, and that all EU states should sign up to such an agreement. He reportedly told the newspaper: “We must make sure that aviation gets into the carbon trading scheme as soon as possible. I think it would get the public more engaged in this. Only one in eight make the connection between flying and global warming. We have got to change that.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
