Tourism seeing record numbers in US Virgin Islands
Tourism is up in record numbers and there’s a boom in travel-related projects in the US Virgin Islands, reports the government.
Air and cruise ship passenger levels were up nearly 5% from the same period as last year, said the Bureau of Economic Research (BER).
Before the end of the year, 2.7 million visitors are expected. That number should go to 2.8 million next year, according to the BER.
Major tourism-related projects include:
- A new harbor front, cruise ship dock, minor league baseball stadium, sports and cultural center in Frederiksted, St. Croix.
- The $150 million Yacht Haven Hotel and Marina in St. Thomas, which is due to be completed next year.
- The $31 million Crown Bay Marina and retail center at St. Thomas is near completion.
