Tourists told to pay fine or cover up
Palma on the popular holiday island of Majorca is threatening to fine tourists who walk the streets in beachwear this summer, according to local reports.
The city council is planning to introduce the fines, of up to £500, following complaints by restaurant and bar owners of semi-clad clients turning up to be served.
The fines, which are part of Palma’s new Good Citizen Plan, are expected to be introduced at the end of May.
Alvaro Gijon, the mayor of Palma, said that the aim of the new laws was to regulate good behaviour for tourists and residents with the aim of preserving ‘harmony and civility’.
