Travel Counsellors to unveil consumer protection scheme
Homeworking travel agency Travel Counsellors is to create its own passenger protection scheme.
The company is in the final stages of putting an independently administered financial trust in place for all the money it receives from customers.
This is similar to the consumer protection approach offered by members of the non-ABTA Travel Trust Association.
Travel Counsellors claims its trust will mean all clients will be fully reimbursed in the event of any supplier failure – including low cost airlines, scheduled airlines, package holiday operators, accommodation-only firms and car hire companies.
The Bolton-based company, which has 400 agents working from home in addition to 100 head office staff, expects to give full details of the consumer protection arrangements within six weeks.
Chairman and founder David Speakman said: “We need a system that protects all customer monies – not just in certain circumstances or with certain suppliers.
“We want our customers to be fully protected and this trust will give all our customers complete peace of mind.”
