Travel firms drop down Hitwise rankings

Travel companies have dropped down the latest pre-Christmas Hot Shops List compiled by internet research firm Experian Hitwise and Interactive Media in Retail Group.
The Top 50 for November saw Thomas Cook drop 30 places to 46 compared to the previous rankings in August.
First Choice and TravelRepublic.co.uk both dropped out of the Top 50 altogether.
EasyJet was the highest ranked travel company in 12th place, a drop of two from tenth. Expedia was 13th, down from ninth, and Ryanair 14th, down from 12th.
Thomson Holidays dropped from eighth to 21st place while lastminute.com was down from 15th to 24th in the rankings. British Airways dropped from 35th to 42nd place.
Travelodge was one of the few risers, going up seven places to 37.
The top three positions were retained by Amazon UK, Argos and Play.com.
The biggest upward movers were GAME, Boots, Sainsbury’s ASDA Direct, PC World, ASDA, New Look and John Lewis.
Director of research Robin Goad said: “As we approach Christmas, retailers from sectors that traditionally do well at this time of year have improved their positions on the list.”
