United Airlines adding second daily San Francisco flight from Pittsburgh
United Airlines will add a second daily flight linking Pittsburgh and San Francisco in the summer.
It will operate seasonally departing Pittsburgh each morning from June 7 through August 20.
The return journey from San Francisco will be a redeye flight.
Reservations for the new service are already live, United said.
"This second seasonal flight is a good way to measure whether this could be a good year-round opportunity and, at the same time, give customers another choice," said United spokesman Jonathan Guerin.
United’s existing Pittsburgh to San Francisco daily flight also operates seasonally but for about 10 months a year.
That service ends on January 7 and restarts again from March 9.
"Our technology industry in this region has been asking for expanded service to San Francisco, and we’re pleased United is growing its service and providing additional West Coast ties to support that industry. This additional service by United will help our region’s expanding technology industry and allow those businesses to thrive, while also facilitating additional opportunities for tourism," said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.
Allegheny County Airport Authority spokesman Bob Kerlik said: "We’d love to see this twice daily service expanded to year round."
