Virgin, Jetstar ground more flights from Bali
The uncertainty and travel chaos continues for holidaymakers in Bali with flight cancellations extending into Monday and possibly beyond.
Virgin Australia confirmed the first six flights Monday are grounded and an additional four are under review.
Rival Jetstar cancelled five of its Monday flights.
Both airlines were forced to halt flight operations over the weekend as Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport was closed to air traffic for the fourth time in recent weeks due to the ash cloud from Mount Raung volcano on Java.
The Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre said winds will continue to blow the ash cloud close to Bali flight paths at least until Monday.
The disruptions are playing havoc with the Bali tourism industry at the height of the July-August peak summer season.
Officials at Ngurah Rai airport claim it is losing about $40,000 in revenue everyday due to the disruptions.
