Visitors to Venice face new tourist tax
Venice is planning to introduce a new tourist tax for the 20 million visitors who arrive each year by plane, by boat and by train, according to a report in the Telegraph.
The government is believed to be discussing the possibility of a small levy on tourists to help restore its crumbling palaces, churches and ancient monuments.
According to the Telegraph, a draft plan has been drawn up by minister for public administration and innovation Renato Brunetta and welcomed by Venice’s mayor Giorgio Orsoni.
