Vistara offering perks for direct flight bookings
Indian full-service airline Vistara is offering added perks to customers booking flights direct.
They will get an additional free 5kg baggage allowance if they book tickets via the Vistara website.
"Booking directly with Vistara offers customers a number of advantages, such as lower fees, the ability to pre-select their seats, along with exclusive offers such as upgrades at attractive rates to help customers enhance their journey," said Sanjiv Kapoor, chief strategy and commercial officer.
Vistara will also allow one free change or cancellation within 24 hours of booking if the date of travel is at least a week in advance.
Direct bookings will also get double air miles.
All domestic airlines in India are obligated to provide a minimum 15kg of free checked baggage with a sliding scale of charges imposed per additional 5kg.
Air India is the only carrier which offers more than the mandated minimum allowance with 25 kg free baggage, regardless of where the ticket is booked.
"This is a welcome initiative by Vistara. We are certain others will follow this gesture to their passengers," said Sudhakara Reddy, head of consumer rights group Air Passengers Association of India.
"I think there is a need for more competition on many sectors which will help passengers. Some airlines are charging passengers for extra hand baggage also."
