Whistle blowing halted in The Big Apple
Will bellman in New York’s most popular tourist district have to hand over their whistles?
That prospect came up after Kimpton’s Muse Hotel bellman were ordered to stop using their ear-piercing whistles to call taxis in the wake of neighborhood complaints about the noise in Times Square, according to The New York Times.
One bellman told the paper:
"It's New York City! People don't move here for peace and quiet."
Area residents have been complaining since March. Some even said it disrupted services at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin across the street from the four-star Muse.
The Muse’s bellman are now hailing taxis with their hands, but could other complaints end the long-standing practice?
