$1 billion Red Rock open for business
Las Vegas’s first $1 billion property not on the strip, Red Rock Casino Resort Spa, opened this week.
The resort has amenities that could only be found in Vegas, such as a three-acre pool that includes swim-up blackjack tables.
The casino 15 minutes west of the strip is geared towards tourists who want less glitter away from the strip. Tourism observers predict success for the new resort in part because it is geared to all age groups.
The striking red sandstone formations of Red Rock Canyon have long made it a popular scenic destination for hikers and rock climbers.
The resort, which opened with 414 rooms, is the most expensive ever in Vegas in terms of cost per room.
Another 436 rooms should open by the end of the year.
The hotel itself was designed to be a cozy, intimate retreat with a boutique feel. Guests can access a separate entrance to avoid the casino floor.
The casino has 62 table games and more than 3,000 slot/video poker machines. There’s also a bingo parlor and a high-limit room.
The hotel is featuring one of the largest spas in Vegas. In addition to offering traditional spa treatments and services, it has a lap pool, yoga garden and adventure activities that include rock climbing.
Children are not left out here. Families can take in Kids Quest, a specially designed floor-to-ceiling maze and children’s playground.
The property also has nine restaurants and a food court.
Entertainment options include a 16-screen movie theatre with private viewing boxes.
