Air New Zealand cuts flights
Air New Zealand has suspended direct flights between Christchurch and Los Angeles until November 13, upsetting Canterbury exporters and tourism businesses.
The cancellation of the three-times-a-week service, because of delays by aircraft manufacturer Boeing in delivering the new flagship 777 fleet, comes at the start of the peak season for United States visitors.
“The Christchurch-Los Angeles service was cancelled for the period of October 30 to November 13,” an airline spokeswoman said.
“We still have the services over Auckland, so the customers could go over Auckland. It is not permanently off-schedule.”
The direct flights began in November and have proved a boon for exporters, and tourism operators who had felt they were losing visitors to the North Island.
