Air Pacific Announces Sponsorship of the Cultural Event Water is Rising
Los Angeles, CA- October 6, 2011– Air Pacific, Fiji’s international airline, is proud to announce its sponsorship as the official airline of the US tour of Water is Rising– a powerful music and dance performance illustrating the South Pacific’s plea for the awareness of climate change. The first of fourteen US performances will debut on October 15, 2011 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, CA and then tour across the country.
Water is Rising features thirty-six artists from the islands of Kiribati, Tokelau and Tuvalu as they express their deep connection to nature and their ancestral past through multi-part harmonies, poetry and traditional dance. The intent of this artistic piece is to impassion and inspire audiences to take part in the efforts to save our planet. Scientists in the South Pacific have reported the vulnerable state of coral atolls of Kiribati, Tokelau, and Tuvalu as they are already experiencing rising sea levels as a result of global warming.
“Air Pacific is honored to support such a meaning performance that portrays the significant effects of climate change in South Pacific. This is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness about such a relevant issue and Air Pacific is proud to be a part Water is Rising to show our commitment to protect the environment,” stated Marie Yalenkatian, Air Pacific’s National Sales & Marketing Manager- The Americas.
Water is Rising is a project of the UCLA Center for Intercultural Performance in collaboration with the Foundation for World Arts and the EathWays Foundation and in partnership with UCLA’s Institute of Environment and Sustainability.
