Bomb blasts in Cairo
One person has been killed and others injured in a series of bombs in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.
Bombs exploded outside a pizzeria, a police station, an office of Vodafone and a branch of United Arab Emirates-owned Etisalat. The branches were closed at the time of the explosions.
It is not known why the mobile phone companies and restaurant were targeted, but Egyptian authorities had been on the alert for attacks in the run-up to next month’s parliamentary elections.
"There are reports of one death and a number of injuries," said the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in its updated advice.
Its advice continues to warn of a ‘high threat’ from terrorism.
"Attacks could be indiscriminate and occur without prior warning. Attacks targeting foreigners can’t be ruled out," it said.
"There is considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria. You should be vigilant at this time."
