Boston announces direct Tel Aviv flights on El Al
The Massachusetts Port Authority has agreed a deal with El Al Israel Airlines to bring three nonstop flights a week to Boston, slated to start in June next year.
The Boston-Tel Aviv route is only the fourth to the US for the Israeli airline and the city faced stiff competition, according to Thomas Glynn, chief executive of Massport.
"Chicago wanted this route, San Francisco wanted this route, Miami wanted this route. There were a lot of other cities shooting at us," he said.
The announcement was made by Governor Deval Patrick who said: "The excitement about it is broad, and we are convinced that both the load and the yield will be as good for El Al as I know the route will be for us."
A 218-seat Boeing 767-300 ER will be deployed on the route which will operate Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
El Al currently flies direct to New York, Newark and Los Angeles.
