Celebrity Cruises latest ship to offer methanol powered cruising

Tuesday, 28 Mar, 2023 0

Celebrity Cruises newest ship will offer hybrid power with three fuel sources, including methanol.

The fifth ship in the Edge Series will give unmatched fuel flexibility, it says.

“As we innovate our ship design, we’re also focused on equally evolving the fuel and technology that powers them,” said Jason Liberty, CEO Royal Caribbean Group.

“By incorporating tri-fueled engines, our ships will be ready to adapt to a net zero emissions future.”

To allow for the ship’s fuel flexibility, it will have two converted 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 46F engines to allow three fuel sources.

It means advancing carbon-free cruising, and lower emissions in the short term.

It is part of the next step toward achieving Celebrity Cruises and the group’s Destinations Net Zero mission.
