Channel Islands top Expedia searches
The Channel Islands was Britain’s holiday destination of choice in February, according to Expedia.co.uk’s new monthly Travel Hotspots Barometer.
Online searches for the islands increased by 101% compared to the same time last year.
Edinburgh has also seen a 48% increase in interest this year, in line with the growing trend of Brits looking to holiday at home.
The Travel Hotspots Barometer was as follows:
1 Channel Islands +101%
2 Sydney +88%
=3 Edinburgh +48%
=3 Hong Kong +48%
5 Dubai +35%
6 London +33%
7 South Africa +29%
8 Toronto +25%
9 India +23%
10 Krakow +21%
“From the lure of the Channel Islands’ 150 miles of sun-kissed coast line to the fantastic clotted Jersey cream teas, it’s no surprise that people are looking at this beautiful destination for closer-to-home holidays this Spring,” says Jonathan Cudworth, head of product marketing, Expedia.co.uk.
“Simultaneously, we’re also seeing a rise in people searching for long-haul flights and holidays. This could show travellers are looking to swap several shorter holidays for one bigger trip.”
